Heworth Grange Y4 Multi-Skills Festival

The Heworth cluster Y4 Multi-skills Festival took place at Heworth Grange on the 14th March from 1.00 - 3.00. 92 children from 5 cluster schools formed 11 teams that took part in a circuit of 12 sport related challenges. Each team was looked after by a member of primary staffor AOTT, who accompanied the children as they attempted the 'Basketball Dribble', the 'Agility Run' and the 'Hi-Stepper', to name but a few.
The twelve challenges had been designed and trialled by a group of 22 Y11 students, some new to sports leadership and some relatively old hands. The roles they undertook as officials, marshals and scorers were essential to the smooth running of the festival and all seemed to gain from the experience of working with the young sports enthusiasts.
The scoring system enabled us to keep track of which team was the quickest at completing the most repetitions at each station, as well as which were the most accurate in their execution of the skills. A team from White Mere were the eventual winners, narrowly ahead of teams from Wardley and the Drive respectively. However, the emphasis was on fun and participation and by those measures, we will certainly be making this an annual event.

Roman Road Enjoy Cluster Basketball Competition

Even though only three teams from two schools took part, Roman Road enjoyed taking part in the Heworth Grange cluster basketball competition. It was an added bonus to win the fair play award.

well done to all at Heworth for the organisation and to Wardley 'A' for reaching the final.

Roman Road's revised Sports Day goes well

Roman Road held a much changed sports day today due to the heat.
As the temperatures hit twenty eight degrees, it was decided to take each year group out in order to do their activities then return to the cooler classroom.

Although some of the atmosphere was lost, it meant we didn't have a whole key stage sitting outside in the extreme temperatures for two and a half hours.

In the end, two houses (Apollo & Mercury) tied for first place. This was the first time that houses had come joint first.

Most importantly, everyone had a burn-free enjoyable afternoon.
